A note from Mrs Hogan...

Congratulations to all of the children on fabulous opening and closing ceremonies. You showed your countries and their dances great respect. I was amazed that everyone focused and remembered their moves so well.

Thank you to all of the family members who supported us either by providing props (scarves, ties, etc) or by attending our presentations.

We realise that many couldn't make it because of work commitments and that the videos on our blogs are hard to see (there is a 100mb limit for each file), so we will offer the dances on DVD to you, each DVD will have all 12 dances on them plus a selection of photographs from our sports day. There will be a small charge of $10. These can be ordered at the office at the start of term 4.

The introduction and class dances are below. Enjoy!

Rugby By Will Scully

The whistle blows I kick it high in the air!
But the defender takes it with care.

The forwards hit hard and I yell some commands,
then the ball goes spiraling through the arms.

The winger finds a gap and thunders off,
but it wasn't to long before he was stopped.

We get there in time to have another crack,
and the ball goes wide, wide through the backs.

The wing hits a gap,
then he sidesteps,jinks and jives!
Not long before we finally get a try.

The life cycle of a Whale! By Kaitlyn Calvert-Shandley!

Whales are quite different,
To normal creatures in the sea,
They have warm blood,
They're mammals,
Just like you and me!

They start of just little calves,
Relying mostly on there mother,
They stay with her every day,
there really is no other!

A whale needs 5 minutes,
Of beautiful fresh air,
To fill up their lungs,
So they can go everywhere.

The calf is getting bigger,
Getting ready to explore,
The amazing big blue ocean,
He's not a baby anymore!

Now the whale is fully grown,
He has everything he needs,
Everything but someone,
To help make his family.

The cow is swimming fast,
The males chase along,
Its the survival of the fittest,
The one that gets her is very strong.

So that is the life, the life of a whale.

Time

TICK.....TOCK......TICK.......TOCK.....
The hands speed around the clock.
Too fast, I just can't catch up in life.
Seconds don't exist, minutes are close to split seconds, years are almost nothing.
It's too fast.

Just yesterday I was a little baby,
Snug in my mothers arms being showered with praise.
But it has faded too soon.
I want to turn back the clock and restore those memories.
How time flies.

Whales By Hannah Burke

A cheerful life begins,
and other ends everyday,
in a whales life .

An immature calf has to breath,
Gasp, puff and get oxygen,
At least 12 times an hour,
That's a long time between breaths!

The mammal is growing,
Maturing and getting fatter,
But there is still in danger
He stays with his mother.

Loving, caring and feeding the baby.
Fear builds up,
With every whale they see.

Now the mammal is fully grown,
Helping, singing and sharing food,
He can wait 40 minutes,

Until he has to breath.

These loving mammals,
Can make new life.
Calfs will come and,
The life cycle will start again .

Soccer by Dylan Holland

I walk onto the pitch,
My heart pounding,
Hands shaking.
I was so nervous.
I couldn't wait for it to start.

We get into our positions,
We're extremely anxious.
It's going to start,
"Peep" goes the whistle!

They start by kicking off.
Passing the ball back and forth.
After weeks of preparation,
The soccer final is finally underway.

Whales -By Finnigan

First the baby whale is born ready for his journey.
The baby whale is called a calf.
While he grows he must be guided by his mother.
Every five minutes the calf must go up out of the water for air.

Once he is older as big as a bus,
His mother must leave him to fend for himself.
Then the male will sing for the female whale.
The challenge is on.

The female whale chooses which male she prefers.
Then they will bring life to a brand new calf .
The life cycle begins again.

The Life Cycle Of A Chicken By Sam Cullen

The chicken is always cooked,
Grilled smoked and fried.
It needs to be kept warm,
Or otherwise it will die.

As the mother chicken lays her eggs,
They will start to grow.
It needs to be looked after,
Not shaken to and fro.

The mother hen is happy,
Happy as can be.
Her little baby chick,
Will hopefully not be tea.

Under the mother chicken,
She starts to feel a shake.
Her little baby chick,
Will now start to wake.

Now the chick has hatched,
To it's leg attatched,
The big ball of yolk,
It's mother is so stoked.

As it grows larger wings,
It will get fatter.
As it's mother feeds it,
Food for it's bladder.

Now the chicken has grown up,
It is ready to mate.
But the very first thing to do,
Is find a date.

The life cycle will start again,
Round and round and round.
As it gets older,
It will gain pounds and pounds.

The Life Cycle Of A Kitten- By Chloe Lewis

Loved and tiny
like a mitten.
Welcome to the world,

little kitten!

1 steps 2 steps
3 steps 4.
She can finally walk,

as she toddles some more!

This cute mammal,

Feeding from her mum.
Slowly gets sleepy,
Now her first day is done!

The little kitten is now older

& she's growing very strong.
Runs like lightning, jumps and climbs,
She could play all day long!

More months pass, now a year
She's now one of those golden oldies!
The cat's mated with a tom, she's gotten lazy,
She won't run or do roly-polies!

She's formed a kitten
So adorable and sweet.
That's the life cycle of a kitten
Which is very neat!

Music Apprceation-Enya-Orinoco Flow

I think this song is aimed at everyone.
They are trying to do a good harmony.
The instruments they are using are things like the triangle, Piano but mainly their voice.
I don't know what tools they used
The song is catchy because it has a good beat.

By Will Scully– Room 7

Music Appreciation – Indigenous Music - Kuranda Warrior
I think it was targeted at people who like the Australian culture.

I think the composer wanted to achieve Australian culture in this song. He/she used the didgeridoo, bass drum and oboe.

I think that this piece of music is droned and repetitive. Overall I did not enjoy this piece of music.

By Kaitlyn Calvert-Shandley– Room 7

Music Appreciation – Indigenous Music - Kuranda Warrior
I think the composer wants the audience to feel like they are in a rainforest, surrounded by nature and animals.

I think the instruments used are the didgeridoo, bass and bongo drums and maybe the oboe. The composer used these tools, a hook, repetitive sounds, persante (droney, heavy) and a slow/moderate speed.

My opinion of this song is low, droney, drowsy, horrible and it makes me want to be sick.

Rain drops

Rain,
Drops,
Drip-down,
All day long.
Splish-splashing,
Thunder crashing
,
Crying out their song.

I'm feeling really blue right now,
I don't know what to do.
Bullying ain't so good,
When you don't have a clue of,
What they're planning next for you.
Oh No I think I'm gonna cry,
Yes it's true.
That's my colour blue!!!!!!

Bridge By Kayla Wiering

30-3-2011
I look down, no going back now I say to myself.
First step I jump back.
I try again, I start to swing.

My teeth start to chatter like a rattle snake.
I can smell the fear lurking around me.
Below I hear "Do another step"
All there is, is the bridge, me and the voices below.
I do another step.
I grip on tightly.
Only a few more steps.
It seems like a mile away.
I make another but I nearly fell.
Almost there, made it.
I was so happy.
I had completed the high ropes.

Sick By James Adam

Tired,
I feel tired,
So so tired.
The bus is noisy,
I'm really tired,
There are butterflies in my stomach.
Trying hard to fight them,
The more I do the sicker I feel,
I hate long bus trips,
I feel miserable.
I want to go home
.

Lonely by Hannah Burke

I wander down the street.
Dogs still asleep,
Trees stands sadly.
No one is around.
I look side to side,
Up and down.
I am still by myself.
The clouds close over my head.
Birds fly away from their nests .
Then a girl asks me
"Are you o.k ?"
She gives me a cheerful smile.
Lonely? Not now!
