Balloon Fun
Balloons
at writing time! We have all been given balloons and instructed to fill them
with water. The water spurted out all over Ollie. He nearly drowned! Once the
balloons were tied we set out rolling them back and forth to each other.
The
balloon wiggled and wobbled, and the water swished and swayed like crashing
waves in the sea. The water was very distracting.
Next
we ran outside to pass the balloon. We stood opposite each other and were very
cautious about not dropping the delicate balloon.
We
gently threw it to each other ruggedly. The balloon went quickly like it was
trying to make us drop it. Daphnie did a higher than necessary pass to me and
the balloon tragically splattered onto the stony ground, creating a big puddle.
Rest in peace balloon.
Alice
and Emily were passing the balloon beside us and we decided to join them. Alice
passed to Emily, Emily passed to Daphnie, Daphnie passed it to me and I passed
it back to Alice. That lasted for a couple of minutes. Then when it was Daphnie’s
turn to pass to me she threw too low and the balloon popped at my feet,
squirting its water all over my shoes. I picked up the remains of the balloon
and chucked it in the rubbish bin and ran inside to the warm classroom.
The
balloon moved the way it did because the water inside the balloon was traveling
faster than the balloon when it was rolling or in the air. The speed of the
balloon when it was moving around in one way or the other was uneven so when
the balloon was moving, the water pushed the balloon to make it go faster. It
went too fast for me when I tried to catch it so it smashed on the cold hard
ground behind me.
